What do you think about this? (E. Guitar inside)

Unread post by Dark Guitar »

Hi everyone :) I just uploaded some videos on YouTube, most of them (actualy 13/16) recorded with a Yamaha Pacifica. I'd like to receive some constructive criticism and hear your suggestions for improving any aspect, or just, as title says...what do you think about this? :)

There are various musical genres, reinterpreted covers, improvisations...I hope you'll find something you like :music-guitarred:

I leave here one of them:

Thanks everybody and sorry for my english, I'm Italian :greetings-wavingyellow:

Wow, loved it. ((i)) :D

Only one bit of critisism .... IMO you run the delay a little too long.
But the sound is fantastic and very pleasant to listen to.

My only thing, too. When you record the video..maybe do the finger stretch outside of camera range. Otherwise, I thought it was beautiful...

Yes, maybe a sound a little bit more dry should be better, are you referring to the delay time or it's about the feedback?

Thanks for the listening :)

I completely agree, and I've to admit that I only put two smartphones there around  I'll try to improve this, I'm not very practical yet.

Thanks again :) :)

Very Nice DG . . .

There is good melodic content there with the scales and runs . . . . not just a blues solo . . . . . ((i))

Great Guitar Tone though perhaps a little less reverb - but that is a fairly minor point . . . .

Nice to see the "little pinky" getting in on the act too.

Thanks a lot! Yeah, as you can see you're not the only one that prefeer a more dry sound, I will work on it, thanks :obscene-drinkingcheers:

First of all, let me say: You Sir pick a mighty fine guitar. :!: :D ((i))

What I meant is that the amount of repeats and the length from picking to the last repeat has faded is a bit too long. (IMO)
To me, your first strum/pick fades in the stream of repeats taking a bit off the clarity of you othervise excellent playing.

I have listened to a few of your other tubeclips, again, smooth playing, but (IMO) too much delay.
That being said, if this is your sound and the way you rock, I still tip my hat, and wish I had just a fraction of your guitar skills. :D

Ok got it, I'll reduce the overall level of the delay and the feedback too...in facts in the long run it could be troublesome.

Really thanks again for the listening and for the words, anyway I've seen some photos of your guitars and amps...astonishing!! :handgestures-thumbsup: :handgestures-thumbsup:

I love delay effects, and here was needed! But I used it much less than the other one. :handgestures-thumbsup:

I did my best, but there's still a lot to improve here. I record the video with the smartphone, I can't see "live" how it will come. On the other hand I recorded the video in 4K, so I do as the labels, even if the product is of low quality I move the attention to the packaging   :handgestures-thumbsup:

There's more reverb in the first clean part 'cause it was only that guitar playing...after that, I used much less reverb! :handgestures-thumbsup:

How did I do?

Very nice :)
About your hands. When I first began to experience stiffness in my hands (when I played guitar), I would soak my hands in warm water before I began. My fingers would become much more limber. In my case, I didn't know it was the onset of arthritis. You know what works for you though. If stretching helps, do it. When I sang I would have a glass of warm-almost-hot water next to me on a chair. (Weird, I know). Everybody got used to it. The warm water helped with throat tension. (Other things helped too, BTW. I learned that "Slippery Elm" throat lozenges from a health food store helped with irritation due to over-singing..also Ricola lozenges. "Fisherman's Friend" lozenges helped to clear the throat if that was a problem). Whatever helps you to make the best music. Different for everyone. I'm not sure, in making a video, if finger stretching can be avoided. But if it needs to happen to play, just make good music. That's the important part. I knew a guy who would crack his knuckles.. before and in between songs. He was really good, so nobody cared... Probably wouldn't be great for a recording...

BTW.. if you start to get burning in any of your joints or the stiffness gets worse, go to a rheumatologist. If I had begun Plaquenil soon into it, most of the progression would have been arrested. (But you're probably too young to worry about things like that).

Oh...i misunderstood what you were saying :text-imsorry: ...I understood you told me to improve the angle of view to have a better video (so as to have your finger stretched in the range of the camera, I read too much between the lines).

I always make stretching exercises before playing. Really, that "finger stretch", is given by the fact that I am improvising, it often happens that the hand goes almost alone and I do nothing but stop it...or simply change my mind...it also helps me to keep time sometimes. However yes I can avoid it.

About the arthritis…I've had some signs in the past, since then I always warm up and stretch before playing! :!:
