Old Time Stuff . . . . .

Unread post by parametric »

Just to follow on from some we've been hearing in recent posts . . . .

This is a humourous song from Jack Hylton and his Band . . . .

It's additionally interesting because it continues on Side 2. Standard 78s were limited to about 3 minutes . . .

The Collaro Deck it's played on is the Deck my Dad had as his first record-player.

3 speeds, 78, 45 and 33-1/3, and a flip over stylus for 78/LP

. . . and we complain about vinyl noise? . . . . . . :o

Particularly like the line:
The Captain's Wife was on the Ship
and she was glad she'd made the trip
As she could swim - she might not drown
So he tied her to the anchor as the Ship Went Down

Some more old time stuff ... and WE complain about corn!

My parents used to go out dancing to Nat in the mid thirties.

We used to have a 78 containing on one side Sweet Sue ...

and on the other Georgia on my Mind.

When I was a young teenager I played them until the grooves were smooth!

Ah! The good old oldies.

THIS is CLASSIC . . .

and from a gentler era that sadly is with us no more . . . . Ladies - you may need a box of tissues . . . . .

This is the flip side . . . .

I think his daughter was actually Dena Kaye . . . . . (I have this 78)

These two are just FUNNY . . . .

This one "There was an old farmer he had an old sow" is English Traditional . . . .

It's incredibly difficult to get the right "noises" in the right order . . . .

Not sure about the Artist (I don't have the 78 by me) but could be Leslie Sarony . . . . .
There was an old Farmer.mp3
(3.29 MiB) Downloaded 16 times
Another Trumpet blowing in the Sky - Bobbie Comber (1932)

Notice how the Chorus changes to suit each of the characters in the Song. . . . .

I've added my own full band version from the 78 . . . Bobbie comber again I think with either Jack Hylton or Roy Fox's Band?
