Hello. I am new to this forum. I just purchased this 1985-1990 Yamaha LL-5-C made in the Taiwan factory. I contacted Yamaha support and what I describe here is about all they could tell me. According to Yamaha, this is a hand made guitar. It has a solid spruce top, solid African mahogany back, sides and neck, and Indian rosewood fingerboard and bridge. It has a completely different sound than my Guild GAD-50 (rosewood back and sides) and is a delight to play. Of course, I would need to re-string both with the same strings to really compare, but at first blush, this guitar comes across with a bright tone, yet full, round bass. If anyone has more "fun facts" about this model, I'd love to know as much about it as possible.

All made in Taiwan L-series guitars don't seem to match a known serial number system that would make it possible to date.
Only system known from that period for Taiwan Yamaha guitars have a 8 digit system. Sometimes you can make an assumption based upon the first or first two digits. Sometimes they give the year of production.
The LL5C was made from 1985 till 1990. As wel the 2 as a first number (1982 ?, 1992 ?) or the 20 as the first two numbers don't make any sense.
