PSR-SX720 and PSR-SX920 Prices and Release Date

Unread post by Saul »

Yamaha has kept the launch of the new PSR-SX720 and SX920 pretty close to their chest. There is hardly any information out there at all but, what we do now know is that these new keyboards will be launched on Sept 9th. Or at least that is the USA launch date. Sometimes the UK and EU lag behind by a day but we will see how that pans out.

List prices are as follows:

Yamaha PSR-SX720 $1599.99

Yamaha PSR-SX920 $2299.99

Keep in mind that those are the recommended retail prices. Street price will often be lower.

As for specifications we don't have much but it does look like these new models will only have incremental updates over the PSR-SX700 and PSR-SX900 so if you have recently purchased either of those keyboards I would not be too concerned.

I am sure more info will appear a few days before the launch.

Thank you for info, Saul

Yes, these prices make sense for US market; in Europe list price for SX900 was a bit higher and SX700 lower.
What can I say.. my hopes for SX900/700 successors are high, but expectations not that much. Anyway, if keybed improvement isn't mentioned, then I won't even look at them. Let's be surprised :D

What is launch day? Will the keyboards be in the USA on launch day? Can I purchase one or just order one on launch day?

Only a guess but I would imagine they will be in stock and available to purchase on the 9th September. And the only reason I say that is because some dealers already have their listings in place now, when we are still two weeks out. But who knows? Only the dealers and Yamaha would be able to answer the question definitively.

Now that I don't really have an arranger (well I have a Casio CTK-731 stored away) and having been an owner of many Yamaha arrangers of yesteryear, this is tempting to say the least. But something has to go if I decide to get a 720/920.
Worth considering though as Christmas is not this far away...

I am sure that Mark has the info but he is not allowed to say anything, at least not directly. I think he alluded to some of the changes etc in another post, if you read between the lines 🤔

I know what you mean. With me something always needs to go if I want to buy a new keyboard or guitar. It was once a matter of space but now it is more to do with the cost of living, which I think many of us are affected by.

Arranger keyboards are not something I really ever considered before but I think If I were going down that road I would probably look out for a used Genos 1 instead of a new PSX920. There are plenty of used Genos's out there for a lot less than the cost of the new SX920.

Not very easy to source one locally and I wouldn't risk it buying a second hand one from ebay.
I would prefer to buy new and the 920 would definitely be perfect for me.
But I already have a Montage and MODX+ and a third full keyboard here would be too much. Now MODX has little use unless I take it with me sometimes so I guess I could sell it. But not sure.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for the information! Where did you find it? Also, will the SX920/720 have a built-in USB audio interface? If so, I'll have to buy it. I bought the SX900 in May 2023, not knowing that a Genos2 and now new SX models would be coming so soon.
If Mark is here, he should tell us all the info he has.

I think most of the info has now been removed from public view although what was there was very generic in nature and could just as easily have applied to the SX700/SX900 apart from the price and release date.

For example:

Key Features:
◦ Customizable Voice & Style Expansion Packs.
◦ USB audio recording and playback for seamless integration.
◦ Compact and powerful speakers for excellent sound projection.
◦ Easy song loading and playback from USB.
◦ High-quality touch response keys.
◦ Rich selection of voices and styles for diverse genres.
◦ Vocal Harmony and effects to enhance your performance.
◦ Direct access buttons for key functions.
◦ MIDI connectivity for advanced control.
◦ Real-time control knobs for dynamic sound adjustments.

As for Mark, obviously he can answer for himself but he would not be able to give anymore info. He is a Yamaha dealer and as such is under an NDA. He could certainly speculate and you can read what you want into that ;) but I would not expect him to provide any specific details at this time.

My understanding is that dealers have not yet seen the new keyboards although they will have been sent details.

Would you really need an SX920 if you have the Montage and MODX+ ?

I am not even sure why I would buy a used Genos. I have no use for styles so that pretty much negates the need for an arranger keyboard. But, you never know. If something came up at the right price and it coincided with me having the cash, it could happen 🤔

hi Alex,
I'm pretty sure that SX920/720 will have audio interface -because SX600 already has it
But if you already have SX900, then audio interface alone shouldn't be the reason enough to buy SX920 -because you can get more versatile separate interface for a lot less money (about 150-250€).

btw. I was joking about Mark; I know he must keep his mouth shut... hmmm maybe we should try to bribe him..

The SX600 has a built-in interface, yes, but the A5000 does not. That's why I'm asking about it. Also, Mark really doesn't have to keep his mouth shut about the matter.

Well an arranger is intended to be played with chords and styles most of the times. A synth like Montage can sometimes be played as such using arps and rhythm parts. Definitely not the same thing.
So while technically I don't need one in terms of thing like choice of sounds, polyphony and so on, it does represent a very different style of playing.
BUT as I've had arrangers for most of my life I've taken the easy route, not developing my left hand very well. This has changed a lot in the last two years after getting the synths and the piano.
So I am not really certain I should buy an arranger. I would definitely enjoy playing one and will immediately 'feel at home' with it, but it might lead me back to bad habbits.
