Chord mode throught MIDI on PSR-630 not working

Unread post by sternstauner »

Hello,

this seems to be the right place to ask for help. I already searched the forum but could not find anything.

I am trying to get my keyboard to play chords by sending single midi notes like using the chord mode by pressing single keys while Auto Accompaniment is active, but I cant get it to work.

Right now I am sending the MIDI Notes with a DAW via USB MIDI to the keyboard on Channel 1 and it is playing the notes in the selected voice when the Receive Mode is set to normal. But when I enable Chord Mode, it is not playing any sound at all.

Here is a description of all the Receive Modes from the manual:

Code: Select all

Receive Mode

The “ReceiveMode” function specifies the receive mode for the channel selected
via the Receive Channel function, above. The receive mode settings are as follows:

Normal
Received MIDI data is sent directly to the PSR-730/630 tone generator. If all
channels are set to “Normal”, the PSR-730/630 functions as a 16-channel
multi-timbral tone generator.

Off
No MIDI data is received on channels set to “Off”.

Remote
Received MIDI data is handled in the same way as data generated by the
PSR-730/630’s own keyboard. In other words, a remote keyboard could be
used to control the PSR-730/630 AUTO ACCOMPANIMENT functions, etc.

Bass
The note on/off messages received at the channel(s) set to “Bass” are
recognized as the bass notes in the accompaniment section. The bass notes
will be detected regardless of the accompaniment on/off and split point
settings on the PSR-730/630 panel.

Chord
The note on/off messages received at the channel(s) set to “Chord” are
recognized as the fingerings in the accompaniment section. The chords to
be detected depend on the fingering mode on the PSR-730/630. The chords
will be detected regardless of the accompaniment on/off and split point
settings on the PSR-730/630 panel.
Some things I noticed while trying to get it working:
- When I set the Receive Mode to Bass it will play bass notes when sending MIDI notes from the DAW.
- When I enable Accompaniment Mode by pressing the button on the keyboard it will start to play chords when I send MIDI notes, but only in some kind of a Orchestra Voice. Actually I wouldn't mind, but I cant change the voice it is using. Tried it by changing the voices in the style settings and by sending MIDI Program Change messages on the channel I want to play the chords on. When I set the receive mode to normal, than changing the voice with MIDI messages works.
- Another weird thing I noticed is, that when I change the Receive Mode in the Menu, the keyboard will turn on the Accompaniment Mode.

Sorry, for all the text, but maybe somebody has an idea what else I can try to get it working.

Thank you and Greetings!

Michael
