has anyone thought of 3d printing slightly extended buttons like the above photos to slightly protrude through the membrane and print
out a new overlay with holes cut to suit? seems like an easy and cheaper alternative to have a new membrane made, nor more splitting
membrane. you'd sort of have dx7II style buttons then. I wish I still had my dx7_1 I'd do it. :-)
Ever since 3d printers became available I have wanted to do that to my cz1000.

Rara 0-)

I was wondering if someone somehow modded a mk1 with mk2 buttons ever or if something similar was possible.

(I still haven't attempted my fix yet, a 32 chan mixer that I'm cleaning up is filling my work bench, lol.)

Horror of horrors.
As I took (carefully) apart the button board button 32 membrane fell off and crumbled apart into 4 pieces. Only one piece remained on the buttom itself. Sigh.
Has anyone made replacement stickers or something to cover holes?

Sigh again.

It must be doable.

Take a look at this custom DX7. If the guy is able to do this then surely there IS a way we can replace the panel ourselves?

I have been googling the net for over an hour, but can't find anything about this customization.
I would be interested to contact the guy who did this.

Has anyone got a link?

The gentleman that did this customisation no longer operates and has retired, I'm afraid.

for example where he ordered the sheet to be printed.

anyway, maybe there are others out there...

I know Syntaur once did a vinyl wrap for a juno 106

Interesting discovery. If you reduce the zoom on the facebook web page in your browser (Ctrl -), the facebook sign in banner no longer cover the whole page and you can click behind it. Anyway I wonder if he is on hiatus:

No, he stopped his synth customisation business and now purely focuses on t-shirts.

Hi

New member, long time browser.

I've been following this post for a while now and only recently I have a fairly beat up DX7 mk1 and have been thinking about a refurbishment for a while.
My thing a few years ago was to buy vintage synths from yesteryear, the ones I couldn't afford when I was younger, and enjoy my time messing about with them.
I started buying beat up ones with a view nothing ventured, nothing gained and began by opening them up, giving them a good clean (including putting the keys in the dishwasher - makes a magic job of them), cleaing all the boards and replacing the tact switches.

I've got a dodgy membrane too and like the previous post I saw what Custom Synth have done with theirs.
I spoke to the guy a few years ago about doing my Juno 60 but he seemed quite uninterested. (seems like perhpas that side of the business wasn't attractive to him).

So here we are. With all the extra time we have now I've been thinking of doing a custom job on my old DX.

Actually theres not a lot to be done when refurbishing a case.
1. Strip the paint
2. Repair any metalwork defects
3. Refinish paint
4. Screen Print Text

The difficult bit here is the membrane.

After a few searches, there are quite a few places out there that do this kind of thing so I'm willing to pick this up if I can get a bit of help

First off, does anyone know where you can get a hold of the Text / Graphics for the DX.
I can't find any so I've started working on my own via Adobe Illistrator but as there are plenty of merchasdie out there, it mustv'e came from somewhere.
(plus I'm just learning Adobe. Normally a Solidworks user)

I've hopefully uploaded a sample of what I'm working on.
First goal is to complete a total representation of the front panel

Thoughts and feedbacks and accuracy welcome
(I'll share the orginal file if required)

after a quick google search I found some manufacturers, but none in The Netherlands

tyrns out there are quite a few

https://almaxeis.com/membrane-switch/
https://www.rspinc.com/capabilities/printed-graphics/
http://eclipseprinting.com/products.asp
https://sdgmag.com/features/membrane-switch-printing
http://www.nelson-miller.com/membrane-s ... -overlays/

and many more...

...once we know what we want we can ask around for some Quotes
and maybe call or mail some companies to get a feel of which one is most willing to help us.
I would be willing to put in some of my own money to get a few more (since they don't make em anymore)
