Yamaha SY77 Musitronics PCM-EX

Yamaha SY77 is a 16 voice multitimbral music workstation first produced by Yamaha Corporation in 1989. The SY77 is a synthesizer whose architecture combines AFM (Advanced Frequency Modulation) synthesis, AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) for ROM-borne sample-based synthesis, and the combination of these two methods christened Realtime Convolution and Modulation Synthesis (RCM).

Musitronics sells them for 148 Euro so that Ebay price is ludicrous (I remember reading on some other forum a while ago that they still had stock of this kit at the time that post was made a couple of years ago).

I acquired a mint (never installed) Musitronics PCM-EX kit for the TG77 for 50 Euros on an Ebay auction a couple of months ago. I don't actually own a TG77 yet, but I'm on the look-out for one.

By the way, if anybody has a TG77 for sale in Europe for a reasonable price please PM me.

Is there a demo somewhere about the sounds? I GUESS I have a Musitronic expansion in my TG77 (well, it is an expansion, but I am not sure wether its Musitronic or not) and... well to be honest, it sounds crap. The samples are crap and mostly useless, because they don´t add anything better or complement what´s already inside. There is rom wasted with back then hip samples like crashing-sounds and voices calling "hey" or something, awful drumsamples and more things I did not find sense in. I haven´t listened to it for some time now so I can´t be really precise, all I know I was really disappointed when I checked what is there. At least I have some ideas how the room could have been filled with more sense. Maybe I should extract it from the TG and sell it for an awful (awesome for me) price on foolbay.

Just noticed this old post-I tried installing one years back but it was a nightmare to install, it didn't work properly and as kaffi posted, it didn't do much in the way of better or even different sounds, a big waste of time and money for me sadly. Just noticed the finalized project for the sector 101 stuff. Unfortunatley late to the show and these seem gone now. Hope this gets back up and in production. My SY77 is still in top-notch shape.
