Before opening a new thread, i thought its better to add a question regarding the SY99->SY77 patches here.
I recently got a SY77 and also love some of the sy99 ones and thought i might
could get them half way working in the SY77 (btw, cheers for the waveform list).
Unfortunately my favorite ones are in the preset banks 1&2 and so far i was only able to
find the internal(factory) patches.
Are these avalable somewhere?
greetings from Germany,
The software I use to edit and send patches to my SY77 is called: SY Manager. I love it because it includes both the SY77 and SY99 factory patches, over 1000 DX7 to SY format patches (I was literally scrolling for hours), Yamaha PD sounds library and more.
I highly recommend you get SY Manager or sy.factory by Derek cook because you cannot simply load an SY99 file into an SY77 (from what the SY Manager told me). The SY Manager software allowed me to convert SY99 patches to the SY77 format however, all of the effects were turned off since the SY77's effects differ greatly
from the SY99. Plus, pretty much all factory patches except full blown AFM sounds use waveforms that the SY77 does not
have. I was only able to convert 4 SY99 AFM electric pianos and one Synth Pad (Alaska). Thankfully that one Synth Pad used a waveform that the SY77 had. Other than that, you will be sad to know that most of the SY99's factory presets use waveforms that the SY77 is without.
Which is understandable, as Yamaha wanted to definitely put there new and improved waveforms at the forefront of the SY99. I am not a hardware fanboy and I can and will say that a good bit of the SY77's waveforms are absolutely terrible. The strings (and the looping it employs) are some of worst I've ever heard. And the pianos on the '77 are without expression and color. But I digress.
If the SY Manager would allow me to save the included SY99 Factory presets in the "t01/j01" or whatever SY77 format then I would of attached it to this post. Sadly (for this case), the SY Manager uses it's own proprietary format called .SYM.
Not much you can do with that without the SY Manager. But $25 for the program and all of the patches I talked about it included is not bad.
Hope this helps.
