Introducing The New Yamaha MODX+ Official Launch 1st September (Updated Information)

Yamaha MODX+

Most people will by now know the Yamaha MODX. The younger sibling to the successful Yamaha Montage, the MODX was just about everything you could want in a mid-price synthesizer.

The combination of the AWM2 and FM-X synth engines with a large touch screen, 128-note stereo AWM2 polyphony and 64-notes of FM-X polyphony, Seamless Sound Switching (only available for Performances that have a maximum of 4 parts.), 1 GB of non-volatile user flash memory and the “The Super Knob” which allows simultaneous control of up to 128 parameters in a single Performance. It was and still is an incredible keyboard.

However, time doesn’t stand still and neither does the synth market. The MODX was launched back in Sept 2018 and whilst not exactly old, there are things that Yamaha would like have to have implemented but using the current hardware makes this not possible.Yamaha MODX6+Yamaha MODX7+Yamaha MODX8+

It should be noted that some of what follows is, for the moment at least, only speculation. Yamaha has not yet released any specifications for the MODX+

(New Confirmed Information) The New MODX+ now comes with 1.76 GB of user memory the same as the Montage. There has also been an increase in polyphony for FM-X to 128 notes, again the same as the montage. This could point to the possible inclusion of a second SWP70 chip onboard. The Montage is fitted with two of these chips and we do know that there was a blank space for a second one on the MODX board.

It has been rumoured that there would be a third synth engine in the form of AN-X added to both the MODX+ and the Montage but having seen the MODX+ user manual there is no mention of this. Could it be added at a later date via firmware? Possibly but we do not know for sure.

Release date is now confirmed to be September 1st. The original MODX was released in September 2018.

Pricing is expected to be the same as the original MODX. This is based on the fact that dealers are still taking orders for the MODX even though we and they know that the older model is no longer in production. Therefore we assume they are intending to fullfil these orders with the new MODX+ and customers have not been notified of any increase in price.

We have quite an extensive discussion about the new MODX+ on the forum so why not join us there?
