Nathan Aké Donates Piano to Manchester Community for International Piano Day

Manchester Community Venue Receives Digital Piano Donation
Footballer and pianist Nathan Aké, in collaboration with Casio Music UK, surprises Band on the Wall with a new Casio PX-S7000 digital piano. The donation celebrates International Piano Day, giving young musicians at this not-for-profit youth music venue the chance to explore their talents.
About the ‘Playing For Change’ Project
The donation is part of Playing For Change, a joint initiative by Aké and Casio Music UK. Launched a year ago, the program has provided 12 Casio CDP-S110 pianos to schools with limited funding for music education, helping disadvantaged students across the UK.
Nathan Aké on Music’s Impact
Aké learned piano during the Covid-19 lockdown and credits it with boosting mental and physical wellbeing. He strongly believes in expanding access to music education: “To celebrate International Piano Day, Playing For Change is very excited to donate a piano to Band on the Wall. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!”
Transformative Impact on Band on the Wall
Located in Manchester, Band on the Wall hosts community programs like the Saturday Music Club, where young people can develop musical skills. This donation will enhance learning opportunities, particularly for their partnership programs with Manchester College and Community Arts Northwest.
Music Education as a Lifeline
With rising child poverty rates in Manchester—44.7% of children lived in poverty as of June 2023—programs like this are more critical than ever. Music lessons build confidence, discipline, and academic skills while offering long-term career opportunities.
Acknowledgements and Gratitude
Alice McIlwraith, Head of Learning at Band on the Wall, expressed deep gratitude: “This incredible support from Casio and Nathan allows us to continue providing high-quality, inclusive music education.” Neil Evans, Head of Casio EMI, added, “We hope this donation inspires many to discover the joy of music.”
