The Million Mile Journey for Multiple Sclerosis – Paul Pelland and his Yamaha Super Tenere
It’s not often I write anything about motorcycles on yamahamusicians.com but being a motorcycle enthusiast myself and seeing this story about Paul Pelland and the 290,000 miles he has ridden on his Yamaha Tenere in the last five years, raising over $100,000 for MS research in the process I just had to put it out there.
Meet the Man and the Motorcycle on a Million Mile Journey for Multiple Sclerosis this Weekend in NYC
“I once heard a cure for Multiple Sclerosis was a million miles away, so I thought I would just go get it, and bring it back.”
In 2012, as a Multiple Sclerosis patient and retired motorcycle endurance competitor, Paul Pelland began the longest and hardest ride of his life. After making his diagnosis public, he began officially documenting a million mile journey Chasing the Cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Within months, he set a world record and began sharing his inspirational message of finding your own road to others dealing with challenges in life across the country. Paul writes for health and motorsport magazines and shares his stories from the road and expert advice at motorcycle events and rallies. Traveling exclusively by motorcycle, in the past five years Paul has ridden 290,000 miles towards his goal. He delivered over 250 presentations, set two world records, and raised over $100,000 for MS research. His first well worn Yamaha is on display at the prestigious Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama.
Although MS is a progressive and often debilitating autoimmune disease of the central nervous system, Paul believes riding every day is an intricate part of treating his disease. His message to others living with MS is to find something in life to be passionate about and to make it more important than their disease. It is certainly working for him.
A man with MS. A motorcycle. A million mile journey.
